RECAP | This is far more than a story about Joseph; ultimately Joseph’s life mirrors the life of Christ. In fact, Joseph is one of the most Christ-like figures in the Bible!
1. The Coat Was Given
2. The Coat Was Taken Away
3. THE COAT WAS DESTROYED
Scattered threads, scattered dreams, scattered emotions, scattered desires. Both the coat and the threads of his life are scattered in all directions.
The Greek word translated “workmanship” is poiema, from which we derive our English word “poem.”
Our lives are the beautiful poetry written by God that will speak forth all that he desires in life. He also wants to use us as display cases for his artistry. According to this verse, believers are his workmanship, his masterpieces.
What made the difference?
What makes the difference when we go through a season of scattered threads - but God was with him.

2. THE COAT TAKEN AWAY
- They tore from his body the coat of honour. They took away the symbol of his favour. They rejected his destiny.
- In God's destiny, God will move us forward. However, in the journey, there will also be people who will want to hurt, conspire and speak behind your back. What we need to do is remain true to the fingerprint of God that was given to you in your dreams.
- They may have taken away the external, but the one thing that can never be taken away from you is the personal experience you had with God.

RECAP | This is far more than a story about Joseph; ultimately Joseph’s life mirrors the life of Christ. In fact, Joseph is one of the most Christ-like figures in the Bible!
1. THE COAT GIVEN
1. The call of God will always show clear & visible evidence of God’s appointment. The Coat has to match the call.
2. There is also an internal unswerving, resolute & unshakeable conviction. The dream on the inside is God’s fingerprint calling you to fulfil a unique destiny.
It's not one or the other it is always both.

The biography of Joseph occupies as much or more space in Genesis than the biographies of Adam, Noah, Abraham, or even his father, Jacob.
3. RESTING IN A GOD CENTRED PROVIDENCE
Like Christ – God’s purposes were fulfilled by the actions of His enemies.
- Joseph happens to be brought by Potiphar the leading official of Pharaoh
- Potiphar’s wife seeks to destroy Joseph.
- Then the royal cup bearer and the baker happen to be in prison at the same time as Joseph.
- The cup bearer forgets Joseph for two years and he only remembers him when Pharaoh has a dream. Why does he forget? It’s not time for him to remember. He remembers when God causes him to remember!
- The whole chain of events had to remain unbroken.
WHERE IS JOSEPH? Joseph is in the providence of God.

4. Words Have The Power to delight: The Tree
In the Bible, trees are vitally important to the economy:
- They help to hold down the soil
- They provide beauty and shade
- They bear fruit
A fig tree will produce figs because it is consistent with it's nature.
Our words can help to shelter and encourage a weary traveller, and can help to feed a hungry soul.
It's in your nature to replenish, restore and refresh people!
We are called to have:
- Speech that is gracious is kind and courteous
- Speech that is seasoned with salt is interesting, it invites interaction, adds 'spice' to a discussion and is pure and wholesome.

3. Words Have The Power to delight: The Fountain
The fresh water represents:
- Water is life-giving fountain - Our words can give life
- We can not be healthy without water
The good man utters words of wisdom, comfort and edification.
Thoughtless Speech
- Some peoples normal speech pattern is to accuse, belittle, manipulate, mock, insult, or condemn, and their rash words hurt other people and feel like thrusts of a sword.
- Reckless words may not be intended to hurt, but can be very hurtful. They may not be thought through. Works spoken from a wiseheart can do the opposite; they can heal (cf. 15:4) instead of hurt.
Wise Speech
- The tongue of the wise promotes "healing."
- Words bring healing because they are faithful and true, gentle and kind, and uplifting and encouraging
WISDOM TIP - 'Right words' not only bless people but confirm relationship. Build atmosphere
